Eyelash Extensions: Are they worth it?

eyelash extensions pinterest

Over the holidays I tried eyelash extensions for the first time. Let me tell you, they are amazing!

If you aren’t familiar with eyelash extensions, it’s a beauty procedure where individual false eyelashes (about 90 individual lashes!) are essentially glued to your real eyelashes. The extensions stay on for a few weeks and start to fall out as your natural lashes fall out with their normal growth cycle.

I purchased a groupon for the eyelash extensions at a great deal, otherwise they are super expensive. I can see how they are addicting though! I didn’t wear mascara at all while I had them on, and rarely wore eye makeup. This was awesome, I wear contacts and I loved not using eye makeup, especially mascara. I didn’t have that smudge of mascara under my eyes halfway through the day that add to my lovely genetically imposed dark under eye circles. {read more}

Have you tried beauty box subscriptions before? There are so many…Ipsy, Birchbox, Glossybox, Julep, etc. I liked this box because it’s by far the best value, and focused on skin care and hair care instead of makeup. Kind of a fun treat for yourself and a good way to try out new drugstore products without committing to buying a full-sized product. {read more}

The Secret to Better Hair

the secret to better hair water softener

We’ve talked about crazy, frizzy BIG hair here before. If your hair ever feels dull or weighed down, or if you fight frizz, I’m going to let you in on a little secret to better hair.

It’s not a hair product. It’s not a straightening process. It’s not a no-shampoo plan.

It could be your water.

Where I live, we have hard water. Meaning it’s full of minerals, and it can take more shampoo to clean your hair (probably drying out your hair more). You can see hard water mineral build-up on your faucets, on your shower doors, etc., imagine what that is doing to your hair! {read more}

How to Care for Thick, Frizzy Hair

thick frizzy hair

Before we get started, let’s be sure we’re talking about the same thing.

You know you have thick, frizzy hair when:

  • You run out of conditioner before shampoo, every time.

  • You avoid any product with the word “volumize” on it

  • If you put your hair up in a bun when wet, it will still be wet 12 hours later

  • When you get your hair cut, there is an embarrassingly large amount of hair on the floor, but you only got a half-inch cut off. Meaning they have to cut “out” so much (layering). And you feel like you lost 5 pounds.

  • Blow drying your hair is exhausting, but a good arm workout.

  • The 80’s were a good hair decade for you.

  • This:

thick hair problems

So if you relate to any of those, you are in the right place. I happen to have crazy, frizzy, extremely thick hair. Huge. I get it from my Dad. So after years of trying to figure out what works to manage “the beast”, I’ve got some tips for all my thick-headed readers.

Tip 1: Shampoo every 2-3 days

Thick hair is often very dry too, so try to shampoo as little as possible. When you do shampoo, use a moisturizing shampoo and be sure to flip your head over so you can get the underside of your hair. As I Am Coconut Cowash is my favorite shampoo, by far.
